Now that the recommendations are drafted, what comes next?

The draft plan was released for public review and comment in October 2024. The Rutherford County Planning Commission began the formal adoption process for PlanRutherford in January 2025.

To be adopted, the Plan must be approved by the Rutherford County Planning Commission and then by the Rutherford County Commission. During the process, public hearings must be advertised at least 30 days prior to each meeting.

Public comment is encouraged during this process and can be provided to the Rutherford County Planning and Engineering Department through multiple methods including, but not limited to, e-mails, phone calls, etc. Those comments will be reviewed and presented to both the Planning Commission and Board of Commissioners for their consideration.
